Jim Barton of Lakeside Donuts opens successful donut shop business

Jim Barton of Lake Donuts located in Port Clinton Ohio has now been successfully operating for over three years, and it has been exciting to watch his donut business continue to grow and thrive.

I was originally contacted by Jim during the planning stage of his business to assist with the layout, including the kitchen design and customer checkout flow. From there, Jim decided to contractually hire me to provide hands-on training in the art of donut making.

Over the years, Jim and I have continued to speak regularly, and through that time, we have built not only a strong business relationship but also a genuine friendship. That is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do — helping people bring their donut business dreams to life and building lasting relationships along the way.

I really like Jim’s business model. Lake Donuts is open four days a week, and when they sell out, they close for the day. It is a simple, effective, and profitable approach that works extremely well in a tourist-driven town.

Jim’s success is another great example of how a donut business, or even a donut franchise model, can be as simple or as advanced as needed. With the right plan, the right training, and the right business model, a donut shop can be structured to create long-term success and monetize the business for years to come.
